Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a reminder to all of us that the Freedom that we take for granted isn't free. I look around the world and freedoms of all kinds (religious, speech, movement etc.) are in retreat. Those who seek to weaken the tree of liberty know no ideology, these authoritarians are on the left, right and center of the spectrum. This crisis was in part caused by those who wished to hide uncomfortable truths from their people.
This Memorial Day I ask you not only to think of the Brave Men and Women in the Armed Forces who have died in the service of freedom, but also those who who have died in the last few years in the service of our communities. Doctors, nurses, firemen and
other front line workers deserve praise today as well putting their lives on the line so that we can return to some sense of normalcy. They risked their lives and some have lost them doing the right thing by their community.
If these crises have taught us anything it is that there are things bigger than ourselves. Community, Family, and Duty to ensure that everyone is taken care of. The coda going forward should be not me, we. To paraphrase JFK, Ask not what your community can do for you; ask what you can do for your community and the greater community of humankind.
